Paper Bag Materials

 

The primary materials for paper bags manufactured by Arkpack (and others) are various types of paper, often selected based on required durability and finish:

• Kraft Paper: This is a very common, durable, and strong paper, often used for shopping bags and grocery bags. It naturally comes in a brown color but can be bleached white or dyed.

  • Arkpack is a manufacturer of Kraft Paper Box products, indicating their use of this material.

• White Paperboard / White Cardboard: Used for high-end, premium bags like gift or luxury shopping bags, as its smooth, bright white surface is excellent for high-quality printing.

• Art Paper / Coated Paper: Paper that has a smooth, sometimes glossy, finish, often laminated. It's used when intricate printing and vibrant colors are required for branding.

• Lamination: A finish (often Matte or Glossy) applied to the paper, typically a thin plastic film, which enhances visual appeal and adds a layer of protection against moisture and wear.

• Handles: Materials like rope handles (common for premium bags) or cotton handles are added for carrying.

Rigid boxes (also known as set-up boxes) are constructed from multiple layers to achieve their characteristic strength and premium feel.

 

Core Structure (Rigidity)

 

The rigid core provides the box's primary strength and structure.

• Greyboard / Chipboard: This is the heart of a rigid box, made from dense, thick paperboard often produced from recycled paper pulp. It is significantly thicker than standard folding cartons (e.g., 1.5mm to 3.0mm thick).

  • Arkpack is noted to manufacture boxes using Cardboard, which includes this type of material, and features boxes like Premium Textile Fabric rigid boxes.

• Cardboard: A general term that includes the thick paperboard materials used for the core.

 

Outer Wrap (Aesthetics)

 

The core is completely covered by a thinner material called the wrap, which provides the box's final look.

• Art Paper / Coated Paper: A smooth paper used for printing detailed graphics and applying various finishes.

• Specialty Paper: Materials with unique textures, colors, or finishes (e.g., metallic or embossed) for a luxury or custom feel.

• Fabric or Leatherette: For the most premium applications, materials like linen, velvet, or faux leather can be used to wrap the rigid core.

• Finishes: Techniques like Lamination (Matte or Glossy), foil stamping, or embossing are applied to the wrap paper before it is glued to the core.
